Friends Peter Kilham and Alan Bemis started Droll Yankees as a record label in 1960. Peter, an engineer, artist, and inventor, was also an avid backyard birder. In 1969, he invented the first commercial bird feeder, which continues to be a best seller.
An American company, Droll Yankees sources the majority of its components from domestic manufacturers.
Yankee Whipper Bird FeederThe Droll Yankees Yankee Whipper is a weight-sensitive birdfeeder that allows birds to eat while preventing hungry squirrels from getting a meal. The 17-inch seed tube holds 5 pounds of birdseed for fewer refills, and it has four seed ports for accommodating multiple birds at once. The tube feeder hangs by its sturdy stainless steel looped bail wire that reduces motion to prevent seed from spilling. The Yankee Whipper measures 8-3/4 by 8-3/4 by 28 inches.
The Yankee Whipper features four seed ports with curved perches that encourage cardinals and small songbirds to eat but prevent squirrels from feeding. Each perch is individually sprung and calibrated to collapse when approximately 2 ounces or more rests on the perch. To further repel squirrels, the seed tube is designed to be too wide and long for them to cling to. Also, the heavy, snug-fitting metal cap cannot be lifted by squirrels, so they cannot reach the seed inside the feeder.
Large CapacityThe Yankee Whipper can hold up to 5 pounds of birdseed, which means you don’t need to make frequent refills. An internal baffle keeps seed flowing to all four ports, and the clear tube helps you keep track of seed levels.
Durable ConstructionThe Yankee Whipper Birdfeeder is designed for years of use. The durable seed tube is made from UV-stabilized polycarbonate that will not discolor over time, and the feeder's metal components are powder coated in a lovely evening blue that will resist chipping and fading. The Whipper is backed by the Droll Yankees Lifetime Warranty against squirrel damage.
